چکیده

An optical receiver for 40 Gbit=s communication systems with 8274 V=W conversion gain and 950 mVp–p limiting differential output is reported. A back-to-back sensitivity of 9.4 dBm at a bit error rate of 10 12 was observed for a 2 1 pseudorandom binary sequence. The receiver incorporates an InP based pin diode, a transimpedance amplifier and a limiting amplifier. This is the largest conversion gain with high sensitivity reported for 40 Gbit=s receivers without optical amplification.

low-confinement SOAs using quantum well intermixing and MOCVD regrowth

Photonic receivers integrating unitravelling carrier (UTC) photodiodes with high saturation power=high gain semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) are presented. The SOAs demonstrated up to 28 dB of gain with saturation output powers of up to 18.6 dBm, while the UTC photodiodes were capable of 40 Gbit=s operation under high photocurrent operation. The chip-coupled receiver sensitivity was bett...

Error-free all-optical add-drop multiplexing using HNLF in a NOLM at 160 Gbit/s - Electronics Letters

Introduction: An add-drop multiplexer (ADM) is one of the key elements in optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) networks. Various methods of performing OTDM add-drop have been demonstrated. Recently add-drop operation at 16 10 Gbit=s has been demonstrated with the use of a gain transparent ultrafast nonlinear interferometer (GT-UNI) [1] switch and at 4 40 Gbit=s with travelling-wave electroa...

Evaluation of Wavelength Conversion Based on Cross-Gain Modulation in Quantum- Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers for 40 Gbit/s NRZ Signals

This paper presents a simulation study of Quantum-Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) used for wavelength conversion based on Cross-Gain Modulation (XGM). The key characteristics of these devices are presented along with a rate equations model. This model is used to perform XGM simulations. Performance under different operating regimes is analyzed. Near patterning-effect free wavelen...

Asynchronous Digital Optical Regenerator for 4 x 40 Gbit/s WDM to 160 Gbit/s OTDM Conversion.

We propose and numerically analyse an asynchronous digital optical regenerator using a single-EAM loop and a novel neighbor-combine approach. It effectively re-synchronizes input signals with arbitrary phases to the local clock, and regenerates signals with high amplitude fluctuation and polarization mode dispersion. We demonstrate the application of this regenerator for 4x40 Gbit/s WDM to 160 ...
